Understanding Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Coverage

Hi everyone, in this video, I wanted to break down Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage, which is a really important part of your auto insurance policy. Now, PIP, as it’s often called, isn’t the same everywhere. It actually varies quite a bit depending on where you live. For instance, if you’re in Washington state, it’s not mandatory. But, in 15 other states, it’s the law.

So, what exactly is PIP? Think of it as medical coverage that kicks in when you’re in a car accident. But here’s where it gets interesting: it’s broader than you might think. Unlike auto liability, which only comes into play if you’re at fault, PIP doesn’t care who caused the accident. It’s going to help you out regardless.

I shared an example in the video that really highlights this. Someone was injured after falling off a friend’s car, and their parent’s PIP covered them, even though their own car wasn’t involved. That’s how broad it is!

PIP goes beyond just medical bills, too. It can also cover what’s known as “loss of services.” So, if you’re injured and can’t do things like yard work, PIP can actually pay for someone to do it for you. And on top of that, it covers lost wages and even funeral expenses.

That’s why I always emphasize that PIP is a crucial part of any auto policy. It provides a safety net that can be incredibly valuable when you need it most. Make sure you understand how it works in your state!
