Is the reinvention of FEMA doom or are there upsides?

This is part Insurance and part political, so if that’s not your thing scroll on, if so, the first thing you must know is I have never voted for Trump in any election.

Trump is talking about remaking and or removing FEMA. What may surprise you, many insurance agents that sell flood insurance, 90% of which is managed and backed by FEMA, may be okay with that….why?

Because FEMA has a bad reputation in my industry. People don’t like how long and complex it is to deal with auto insurance claims but flood insurance is often a worse process. Our agency brought in a company because they help manage claims and keep FEMA accountable because it’s such a known issue.

Now, if Trump is just going to delete FEMA and not reinvest any federal funds into state ran disaster recovery, then yeah this is going to age like milk. We need disaster recovery but what if moving it to the state allowed for more specialists at the state level, who’d be able to respond faster, and risk management to keep bad things from getting worse?

Cause right now it’s not a great system. A career adjusters have told me that the highest paid adjusters in the property and casualty industry are flood adjusters and it’s an exclusive club to break into. We’re talking $200k plus. Does that make sense?

I know a life insurance agent, who was on a disaster response committee but adjusted flood claims. He never had a property and casualty license, required to sell or advise on flood insurance, or an adjusters license to do the work. Does that make sense?

I’m absolute intrigued by the idea of reinventing FEMA, reinvesting those funds into the state, so the state can specialize and do risk management to minimize disasters before they happen and react to them faster. Instead of waiting for the Feds to show up someday and write checks… eventually and then the state never deals with the root cause.

The orange man does a lot of things I don’t like but just because he says something, doesn’t exclusively mean it’s the worst thing ever.
